Comic Con '08 - The First Day...

Friday July 25, 2008
It used to be Thursdays were the day to kick-back, check out the booths, and maybe sit through a few panels. But not anymore. Now Hollywood's decided the best way to build buzz is to use the first day of the event to start the ball rolling, and they did so this year in a big way.

After a rocky start due to a horrible freeway pile-up that delayed Comic Con-bound travelers for hours and an accident in Hall H (where all the major presentations take place), 20th Century Fox started things off with a bang - and one huge surprise. 6,500 lucky Comic Con attendees were treated to scenes from The Day the Earth Stood Still (along with appearances by Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly) as well as Max Payne (with Max himself Mark Wahlberg onstage alongside Mila Kunis and Ludacris). But then a guy who knows how to work up a crowd popped onto the stage and all hell broke loose. Hugh Jackman made a surprise visit from Australia to show off a few X-Men Origins: Wolverine clips to the shocked crowd who responded by roaring their approval. Jackman worked his magic on the audience, telling those gathered that without them he wouldn't have a career.

Also making a big splash was the cast of the heavily anticipated film version of Twilight. Fans waited for hours for a shot at making it in the exhibit hall doors before it filled to capacity. The cast - including Kristen Stewart ('Bella'), Robert Pattinson ('Edward'), and Taylor Lautner ('Jacob') - got just a little taste of what they can expect from Twilighters everywhere as the December 12th release date approaches.

Other highlights included Disney's presentation of the action comedy, Race to Witch Mountain. Dwayne 'Not the Rock When He's Acting' Johnson had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand as he talked about working on this new take on the classic Disney family film. And of course one of the most popular guys to ever set foot on a Comic Con stage - Gerard Butler (300) - was greeted with cheers and squeals. Butler took to the stage with his RocknRolla cast mates Jeremy Piven, Ludacris, Idris Elba, and director Guy Ritchie, but it was all about Butler when it came time for the audience Q&A. Oh, and for those Butler fans who weren't there to scream for their man in person, you missed out on the handsome Scot tossing out chocolates to the audience.

Scully and Mulder Return for Another X-Files Adventure

Thursday July 24, 2008
You can believe it. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are back together again for one more X-Files movie and if things go well at the box office for The X-Files: I Want to Believe, it might not be the last time the two step into the shoes of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. Although it took the pair longer than they expected to get back into their roles, both Anderson and Duchovny care deeply for these two characters who've been embraced by audiences worldwide and enjoyed the opportunity to revisit the world of X-Files one more time.

"My coming back was not based on script," said Duchovny about his decision to return for another X-Files movie. "At this point I have almost complete blind trust in Chris [Carter] and Frank [Spotnitz] to come up with the goods. So my only concern was that it should be a stand alone and not something that you needed specific knowledge of The X-Files to enjoy." Read On...
